Criminal record check in Halton Region, online

In Oakville, Burlington and Milton, people usually search for a Halton police check, because Halton Regional Police handles record checks across the region. Whether it’s for a job on the QEW corridor, a role at a Milton warehouse or a rental in downtown Burlington, MyCRC offers a quicker route for the most common check: a name-based criminal record check done online. Type in your name and date of birth for a search of the RCMP’s national database, confirm your identity with an ID photo and a selfie, and download the PDF from your account in as little as 15 minutes.

What Halton Regional Police offers

Halton Regional Police provides police record checks online, or through a computer kiosk at its headquarters at 2485 North Service Road West in Oakville, and it strongly encourages residents to use the online service. A check costs $30, and the fee isn’t refundable. The service says plainly that there is no rush or expedited option, and that processing typically takes two to four weeks from the date you apply, longer if you have lived outside Halton Region in the past five years. Applicants under 18 only get a check for volunteering or for work with a government agency.

Volunteers and vulnerable sector checks

Volunteers get a criminal record check, or a criminal record and judicial matters check, at no charge with a letter on the agency’s letterhead, though applying online adds a $9.95 convenience fee. A vulnerable sector check for a volunteer role still costs the $30 fee. And if more than one organization asks you for a vulnerable sector check, Halton requires a separate application for each one.

Which level an Ontario employer means

Like every Ontario police service, Halton offers the province’s three levels: a criminal record check, a criminal record and judicial matters check, and a vulnerable sector check. When a posting just says “police check”, ask which level it means: because Halton’s $30 fee isn’t refundable, applying for the wrong level means paying again.

Two to four weeks, or today

The Halton route is inexpensive, but a two-to-four-week wait doesn’t suit a start date next week. For $68.23 with tax included, MyCRC’s name-based check skips the two-to-four-week queue and the trip to North Service Road, whether you live in Oakville, Georgetown or Aldershot.
