Criminal record check online in Manitoba
Manitoba employers, landlords and contract clients ask for a criminal record check before you start, and in a province where many people live hours from the nearest police counter, getting one in person can cost a day. MyCRC gives you a criminal record check online: a name-based search of the RCMP national database using your name and date of birth, with your identity verified on your phone and your consent signed online. The finished report is a PDF in your account, ready in as little as 15 minutes, whether you live in Steinbach, Portage la Prairie, Winkler, The Pas or Thompson.
Who handles record checks in Manitoba
The Government of Manitoba’s own guidance splits the province in two. In Winnipeg, criminal record checks come from the Winnipeg Police Service, whose headquarters is at 245 Smith Street and which takes criminal record check applications online. Outside Winnipeg, you contact the local police service or the RCMP detachment for your area, and a check that includes a vulnerable sector search has to be requested from the police jurisdiction where you live.
The province also notes that people who have recently arrived in Canada may need extra documents to prove their identity, and that when a name-based search can’t confirm someone’s identity for certain, the police may ask for fingerprints.
Brandon Police Service
Brandon, the province’s second city, runs its own online record checks with separate links for people who live inside Brandon and people who live outside it. The online criminal record check costs $58.75, requests are processed in the order they arrive, and the results are emailed to the applicant. The Brandon Police Service can only complete vulnerable sector searches for people who live inside Brandon’s city limits; everyone else goes to their own police agency for that search.
Manitoba’s registry checks are separate
Some Manitoba organizations also ask for an Adult Abuse Registry check. That is a provincial check, not a police one: it is requested from the Government of Manitoba, at 777 Portage Avenue in Winnipeg or online, separately from a criminal record check. If you’re asked for one, request it from the province alongside your record check.
Getting it done online
The police route works, but it runs on the police service’s schedule: Winnipeg and Brandon both process requests in the order received. MyCRC’s name-based check is $68.23 with tax included, and you can start it tonight from your phone, whether you live in Dauphin, Thompson or a block from Winnipeg’s police headquarters.
