Criminal record check online in Québec
Employers, landlords and contract clients across Québec ask for proof that you have no criminal record, often under the older name “certificate of good conduct”. MyCRC lets you get a name-based criminal record check online: your name and date of birth are searched against the RCMP’s national database, you confirm your identity with an ID photo and a selfie, and your report arrives as a PDF in your account, in as little as 15 minutes. You can order it in English from Laval, Longueuil, Trois-Rivières, Saguenay, Rimouski or anywhere else in the province.
Three kinds of police check in Québec
The Sûreté du Québec, the provincial police, describes three kinds of criminal record check for individuals:
- A check for work with vulnerable clients, such as early childhood centre staff or scout volunteers.
- A check required under Québec laws and regulations, for sectors where the law demands security screening, including paid passenger transport, teachers, security agents and peace officers. For these, the organization requiring the check tells you how to start.
- A civil criminal record check, for purposes such as pre-employment screening (paid or volunteer), immigration, visas, work permits, record suspensions and good conduct certificates.
The Sûreté du Québec’s online portal is only for the authorized driver permit used in paid passenger transport, which costs $84.25 from January 1, 2026.
Montréal and Québec City
The province’s two largest city police services each run their own check for people who live in their area. Montréal’s SPVM calls it a police verification for civil purposes, at $121 and by appointment; the Québec City police charge $118 at a counter that is open around the clock. The Montréal and Québec City pages explain how each one works.
The court ledger is not a record check
It’s tempting to search Québec’s online court records instead. The Gouvernement du Québec warns that consulting the criminal court ledger “does not provide certainty or confirmation that a person does not have a criminal record”, and it recommends contacting a police department for a criminal record check.
Getting it done online
A police counter by appointment and a $121 fee suit some people; others need the check this week. MyCRC’s name-based check costs $68.23 with tax included, can be ordered in English, and needs no appointment, whether you’re in Gatineau, Sherbrooke or a cottage in the Laurentians.
