A criminal record check for Mississauga jobs

Mississauga has one of the largest concentrations of head offices, warehouses and logistics employers in Canada, and almost all of them run a background check before you start. When the employer asks you for the criminal record check part, MyCRC provides it online: a name-based search of the RCMP national database using your name and date of birth, identity verification on your phone, and the finished PDF in your account. You can do it from Port Credit, Meadowvale or Malton without a trip anywhere.

Background checks in Mississauga

People in Mississauga search “background check” far more often than “criminal record check”. For a job here, a background check usually means references, employment and education history, sometimes a driver’s abstract for delivery and logistics roles, and a criminal record check. The criminal record check needs your identity verification and consent, which is why so many employers ask candidates to supply it.

Getting a check from Peel Regional Police

Mississauga and Brampton are policed by Peel Regional Police, which takes record checks only from people who live in those two cities. All requests are submitted online: you pass an electronic identity verification, pay, and wait for the result. Peel offers Ontario’s three levels: a criminal record check, a criminal record and judicial matters check, and a vulnerable sector check. If you’ve lived outside Brampton or Mississauga in the last five years, Peel has to ask those other police services for local information, and it allows two weeks for them to respond.

In-person service at the Brampton headquarters has closed, and in-person appointments are now limited to fingerprints for vulnerable sector checks and adoptions.

City of Mississauga business licences

Business licences from the City of Mississauga have their own rules for criminal record checks: the city’s published requirements name Peel Regional Police and don’t accept checks from third-party sources, and the check must be recent. Those rules are set by the city for licensing, and they’re separate from what employers and landlords ask for.

Who asks for one in Mississauga

Distribution and logistics employers around Pearson Airport, pharmaceutical and manufacturing companies, banks and insurers with offices in the city, healthcare employers including Trillium Health Partners sites, retail at Square One and other centres, and the many delivery and rideshare drivers who work the Peel region all ask for checks. Landlords across the city increasingly ask rental applicants for one as well.
