Criminal record check in London, Ontario, online
Whether it’s a job at Western or Fanshawe, a warehouse role off the 401, or a new lease near Old East Village, London employers and landlords often want a criminal record check first. MyCRC lets you get a name-based check online: your name and date of birth are searched against the RCMP’s national database, you confirm your identity with an ID photo and a selfie, and the report is a PDF in your account in as little as 15 minutes. It works the same from Byron, Masonville, Westmount or Lambeth.
The London Police Service route
The London Police Service only takes record check applications from people who live in the City of London when they apply. If your ID doesn’t show your current London address, a current utility bill or rental agreement serves as proof. You can apply online, or at the record check office at 601 Dundas Street, which works by appointment only, taking debit, Visa, MasterCard and American Express but not cash. Once processing has started, the London Police Service doesn’t give refunds.
London quotes up to 2 to 4 weeks for processing, won’t answer status questions until two weeks have passed, and says it has no system for rush requests.
What a London police check costs
From January 1, 2026, the London Police Service charges $74 for a criminal record check and $74 for a criminal record and judicial matters check. A vulnerable sector check is $65. Volunteers pay no police fee for the first two levels, though applying online adds a $9.95 fee to the third-party provider that processes online requests, and a volunteer vulnerable sector check is $28.
Which level a London employer means
As everywhere in Ontario, there are three levels: a criminal record check, a criminal record and judicial matters check, and a vulnerable sector check. When a London posting asks for a “police check”, ask which level it means before you apply anywhere.
When 2 to 4 weeks is too long
If your start date is next week, a two-to-four-week police queue doesn’t fit. MyCRC’s name-based check costs $68.23 with tax included, a little less than London’s $74 police fee, and it doesn’t involve a two-to-four-week wait, whether you’re near Western or in St. Thomas.
