Criminal record check in Lethbridge, online
When a Lethbridge employer, from the university and the college to the food processors and farm operations around the city, asks for a police check before your first day, you can sort it out from your couch. MyCRC runs a name-based criminal record check online: we search your name and date of birth against the RCMP’s national database, you prove it’s you with a photo of your ID and a selfie, and the report shows up as a PDF in your account in as little as 15 minutes. West Lethbridge, the north side or out in Coaldale, it works the same.
How the Lethbridge Police Service handles checks
In Alberta the police check is called a police information check. The Lethbridge Police Service takes applications online through three separate forms: one for people who live in Lethbridge, one for people who don’t, and one for volunteers applying through the Volunteer Alberta program. Vulnerable sector checks are different: the service only runs those for people who live in the City of Lethbridge.
Applying online starts with creating a secure account, then answering a series of timed questions to confirm your identity, and the service recommends a desktop computer so you can answer them in the time allowed. If you can’t pass that step, don’t have a computer, or have less than a year of credit history, you apply in person instead, at the front desk at 135 1 Avenue South, Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., with two pieces of government ID, one with a photo.
Fees and how you get your results
An employment check costs $75.45, including taxes and processing fees. A volunteer check is $15.45 with a letter on the organization’s letterhead stating the role is unpaid, and fingerprints for a vulnerable sector check for employment add $40. Online results arrive by email with download instructions and stay in your account for 60 days; in-person results are mailed after a 10-day processing period, and the service treats its results as certified for 60 days.
Where the online check helps
Timed credit-history questions are a hurdle for students, newcomers and anyone with a thin credit file, and a counter visit means taking time during working hours. MyCRC confirms who you are with your ID and a selfie instead, with no credit file needed and nothing to collect at 1 Avenue South, for $68.23 with tax included, whether you live in West Lethbridge or out in Taber.
