Criminal record check online in Yukon

Yukon employers hire for mines, tourism lodges, government offices and trades work across a territory where the nearest police counter can be a long drive away. MyCRC lets you get a name-based criminal record check without that drive: your name and date of birth are searched against the RCMP’s national database, a photo of your ID and a selfie confirm your identity, and the result arrives in your account as a PDF in as little as 15 minutes. It’s the same process in Haines Junction, Carmacks, Mayo, Faro or Teslin.

The Yukon RCMP and its detachments

Policing in Yukon is done by the RCMP’s M Division, and in-person record checks go through its detachments. The Yukon RCMP lists thirteen: Whitehorse, where M Division headquarters is, plus Beaver Creek, Carcross, Carmacks, Dawson City, Faro, Haines Junction, Mayo, Old Crow, Pelly Crossing, Ross River, Teslin and Watson Lake.

The Whitehorse detachment is at 4100 4th Avenue and lists its hours as Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with fingerprinting among its services; its non-emergency line is 867-667-5555. For the twelve community detachments, the RCMP’s own listing says the services available may differ and asks you to contact the detachment directly to find out which are offered and when it’s open. If you live outside Whitehorse, call before you travel. Yukon RCMP detachments use 9-1-1 for emergencies, and the Whitehorse front counter also lists fingerprinting among its services, so it’s the place to ask about a fingerprint-based check.

When fingerprints come into it

A name-based check is the standard route. Fingerprints are needed for a certified criminal record check, and when a name-based search can’t settle your identity. On top of any local charge, the RCMP adds a federal processing fee of $25 for each fingerprint check, which the agency taking your prints collects, though the fee is waived for eligible volunteer work and some other purposes. Results with no possible match to a record come back in 3 business days or less, while a possible match can take up to 120 business days.

Doing it from home

Between detachment hours that vary by community and the distances involved, a check you can start tonight from your phone saves a day off. MyCRC’s name-based check is $68.23 with tax included, and it needs no call ahead to a detachment, whether you’re in Riverdale or a cabin up the Klondike Highway.
